When my family first moved to the middle of nowhere from Southern California, a selection of family members would drive like 40 minutes to the video rental store a couple of towns over every weekend. Sometimes there were unintentional themes to the double features our family would sit and watch together. (A memorable one was Requiem for a Dream followed by Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Don’t do drugs!)
One weekend we watched Jurassic Park and Independence Day. We might have even caught another movie featuring Jeff Goldblum on television that weekend. Someone pointed out that he was in everything we had watched that day, and someone else said it was because we were the Jeff Goldblum Fan Club.
For Christmas that year, my sister and I made Jeff Goldblum Fan Club t-shirts for everyone. Even the baby!
I don’t know how it happened, but somehow all of the adult sized shirts seemed to end up back with me. I’d try to give them back, but I’d end up with what felt like more than we had even made hanging up in my closet. For quite some time my clothing rotation was probably 80% Jeff Goldblum Fan Club t-shirts.
